Anime cons Dance noob

For as long as I have been going to conventions, I have never been to a regular con dance. What goes on in there? and how does it difer from the jock heavy, ego growing and killing school dances?

From convention to convention the dances will vary...

generally it will be dark with the exception of the trippy dance lighting (The convention will have several, but I will be providing a number of additional lights this year as I am a mobile dj who also dj's Anime NebrasKon).

Music will depend on the dj who is up there.  Some are dance club style dj's who do live mixing of various techno or electronic music.  There will may or may not be a point in time where ddr music, anime theme music and video game theme music is played (depends on the convention).

Things that you are not likely to hear
Cha-Cha Slide
Chicken dance
Country

There's a thread with some of the rave requests, and a few youtube links.
http://www.ndkdenver.org/forum/index.php/topic,3370.0.html

You most likely will see a lot of people wearing glow sticks and they will probably be selling them just outside the dance, or just inside of the dance.

You will probably see a few costumes that have incorporated lights and will be in there (I'll be in there with my master chief costume an I have blue head lights...)

Just imagine a very friendly kind of dumbed down rave. People dance with there groups and have fun and it gets pretty big with a chain forming sometimes where anyone can join in. Its fun and usually friday is the more slowish dance where you ask a girl to dance (feel free to I do it every year and the girls are usually pretty friendly and say yes and we become friends afterwards) and Saturday is the glowstick and heavier rave dance. Both are a ton of fun feel free to come to both and the atmosphere is awesome and will easily wake you up and help you stay awake through the whole dance.
Cosplays Planned:
Phoenix(Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney)
Captain Falcon (F-Zero, Super Smash Brothers)
Viral (Gurren Lagann)

The main dance on Friday I plan on going. At least now I can ask a girl to dance with a weird look on her face and a more diverse selection of music than a constant flow of rap and mexican music. I really can't dance to the later and that's basically all they played at every dance on my senior year at ACHS minus the prom and sadie hawkins.

LOL! I think you're mistaking the Saturday night dance (rave) for a bad high school dance. There's never been mexican music or rap played durring. The saturday night dance is all electronica music.

No that's from my experience from high school not at any of NDK's dances.

I WISH they would play hip-hop, damn it...

I need to get my crunk dance and two-step on. Kinda hard to crunk to techno, but eh. Breaking is fun as hell.

Don't get me started on him! To me, he (in my opinion, and I'm sure some of you would agree) is ether too lazy to make or buy a cosplay, or he's Brian from Family Guy in that dance. I don't even like him anyways. For many reasons:

1. He came up to get some pictures of him with me when I was Mr. Game & Watch when I was only joking about saying "Whoelse wants some Game & Watch?" and that was just a joke that I said that, but then he comes up to me and says "I do." To me, I said in my head "Oh god, not this r-----ed idiot."...but I just went along with it. Kinda wish I didn't.

2. He acted like he was the referie when Candy Ninja faced Capt. Jeff the Second time last year, and grabbed CN's hand and said "Winner!" That must have been embaressing to you CN.

I say we sic Donkey Kong on him!!! (JK lol)

But dances are fun however. I've never been to one at a con...yet, but consider me there.

Unsure about the Friday night dance but I assume its the same time each night.   Around midnight.   That is when it is technically scheduled.  My dance is right against the costume contest and I'll start once they stop.   For me its closer to 11 p.m. on Saturday night.
