My first exposure to anime was at Tara's house at the end of my senior year of high school. There was some strange-looking cartoon on her TV which she told me was an 'anime' (I don't remember which). I thought it looked odd but was told you get used to it. My reaction was, 'sure...'.

At the end of my freshman year at CU my roommate and I went to a video rental place. He wanted to get an anime so checked out one of the Dragonball Z movies. I decided to get Ranma (something I had never heard of before). When we got back we watched the Dragonball Z movie, nearly convincing me to never try anime again. I then watched the Ranma one and changed my mind  ;D. The next year I started going to AA at CU (Anime Anonymous) and went to the second NDK (the one in '98).

One of us, Joggle! I also went to the one in 98 as well; forgot what I bought there, but I had a lot of fun(and got exposed to Evangelion, an extremely excellent show).

Saint Seiya and Bubblegum Crisis. I used to watch some channel (action maybe?) that played foreign tv with cheese dubbing everyday after school with my dad....until I went off the air my second year of junior high then we started buying anime on VHS, the firsts were Maze the Megaburst Space and Dragon Half.

I think Sailor Moon was the first anime I watched. >.>

Used to wake up real early as a kid just to watch that before going to school. Then it turned into Dragon Ball Z in the third or fourth grade.

I also remember watching Akira once really early in my childhood late at night, and having nightmares for weeks to follow. xD

Even so, Sailor Moon is what started it all for me. :]

The first anime I watched was probably Volrtron back in the eighties.  I don't remember it very well, since I was around 5 at the time.  When I was older I watched some of the anime movies they use to show on SciFi.  None of those movies really stuck out for me as being really good except for Demon City Shinjuku (which I now have the BESM game for :)) and Dominion Tank Police.

But the real gateway Anime that made me decide Anime was awesome and I needed to see more of it was Slayers.  A friend in high school had the entire first season on VHS and made me watch it after I told him I didn't think Anime was that great.  He sure proved me wrong! :)

My first Anime was Rurouni Kenshin and Sailor moon (don't know which one came first) and I was really really young at the time so I had no idea it was an anime. It wasn't until I went to watch the 5th season of sailor moon and it was in japanese which really freaked me out. XP
And now I'm obsessed.  ;D

My first anime was Digimon. My brother and I loved to watch it but we had no idea it was anime. It was only 7 years ago that I really knew what anime was.

Trigun. Best introduction to anime ever. I forget how old I was, but it was a while back when they were still playing awesome on Adult Swim. I used to stay up all night, just to keep up with the series.

I remember watching Voltron, Dragonball (no Z, Kai, or whatever they're up to now) and the like long before I knew what 'anime' was.  A co-worker introduced me to some more 'modern' anime, leading me to Fullmetal Alchemist, and subsequently to NDK.

Since then, I haven't seen my soul.  I think BakuDan ate it at my first con.

You must be pretty close to the same age as me, because that's almost the same as what I would have posted. Almost verbatim

I'm all too soon to be twenty-eight.

Technically my first anime was Inspector Gadget and Lil'Bits. I noticed it because my brother and I were watching an episode and Penny's mouth didn't sync up with her voice and we thought it was funny. I told my Dad about it and he said that it was from Japan, the same thing happened with Lil'Bits. After that came Ronin Warriors and I thought that was the coolest thing ever. I didn't have Cartoon Network at the time but I really wanted to watch it because I heard Sailor Moon was showing on that channel. I think I was about 8 when Inspector Gadget was on and then probably 11 when Ronin Warriors was on TV.

At the time anime and manga was rare but I rented whatever they video stores had so I've seen random episodes of Lodoss War (I have the VHS set), Battle Athletes, Tenchi series, and NukuNuku. =) This was about the end of middle school and the beginning of high school for me.

There's more but I'll stop haha. =)
