You! That's right, you! No, not the guy behind you....well, actually, him too! We need all the people we can get to volunteer for this year's NDK!
But BakuDan, why should I volunteer for NDK?Why, I'm glad you asked me that! The most important reason to volunteer for NDK is because you love the con, and want to see it be a success. The more people we have helping all weekend, in every area, the more smoothly the convention goes for everyone. However, because we know you like schwag, we also have free stuff you can only get by volunteering for NDK. Volunteers that work four hours get a Volunteer lanyard, to display your pimpin' NDK Badge on. After 8 hours, you get a Volunteer water bottle, because you've obviously been working hard, and you're bound to be thirsty. After 12 hours, we have coupons good for $5 off any NDK schwag from the NDK Merchandise table, because we couldn't decide what else to give you, so you can pick one out yourself. And after 16 glorious hours, you get a free pass to next year's convention. That's right - work 16 hours, and next year's badge is on us.
Sounds pretty good! What areas of the convention can I work in?Well, we want to give everyone a chance to work the areas they'd like to work in, but some areas just don't need any extra help, while others always need someone. When you sign up to volunteer, the Volunteer Coordinator will ask what area or areas you'd like to work in, and do his best to get you over there. Other times, some areas may desperately need your immediate assistance, and he may send you off to help them keep everything together until the emergency passes. Some people don't have a preference, and that's cool, we'll keep you busy as long as you want to work.
Say! If I work long enough as a volunteer, could I end up on Staff? There's a real possibility! Quite a few of our current Staff started as volunteers, and through their long work hours and tireless dedication managed to attract the attention of an Area Head and eventually got promoted to Staff. Not everyone will get the chance to move up to Staff, but not everyone wants to, either. Some people are content to just chip in for a few hours, and then spend the rest of the weekend enjoying the con, and that's okay too. We'll take all the help we can get.
So, how do I sign up?You start by sending me a private message over the forums or an email to
ndkbakudan@gmail.com, and including the following information:
- First Name: Gotta have it
- Last Name: Gotta have this too
- Handle: If you want people to know you as Spud or Goober, this is where you tell us
- Street Address: If we find your lost wallet, where would you like us to send it?
- City, State, ZIP: Same question
- Phone Number: If you have more than one, feel free to give them all, but definitely include one you actually answer
- Email Address: This is very important, a majority of the con's communications are done by email
- Top Three Areas You'd Like To Work In: Security, Registration, Logistics, Video, VGR, Dealers....we make no promises, but we'll try...
Wait...what are you going to do with all this information?I'm going to put it on a list, and keep it very secret. Seriously, none of this information will be shared with anyone, and we won't use it to spam you or anything. We're cool like that. But we absolutely have to have a way to get ahold of you on a regular basis. If your contact info changes during the year, please keep us updated.
You know, I think I volunteered at a previous NDK. Great! Welcome back! Please be sure to mention that in the email or message you send me, and what work you did for us previously.
So, I know I don't look it, but I'm actually under 18. Can I still volunteer? Of course! Young, strong backs are always needed, but you will have to get permission from a parent or guardian, and there is a form for them (and you) to fill out and sign and bring with you to the con.
Alright, I'm all signed up. Sooo.....what now?Once you're registered and on the volunteer list, you'll get a monthly email from me or the Volunteer Coordinator letting you know what's happening for this year's con, what to expect from the volunteer experience, and general reminders that we still remember you and still love you and look forward to seeing you at this year's convention.
I have a question about volunteering. Should I post it in this thread?Absolutely, because someone else is bound to have that same question, but they're too shy to post it. Since you're so charming and outgoing and good-looking, you can post it here and everyone gets the answer they need.
Should I sign up by posting my personal info in the thread? No no no!! Remember, don't post any personal information in the forum threads. Just send me an email or private message, and I'll get you hooked up.
Thanks BakuDan!No my friend, thank YOU for volunteering for NDK!
