Who shall watch the Watchmen?
« on: February 27, 2009, 05:11:00 pm »
I will!

Who else is with me?

I was thinking Friday March 6th at the IMAX on Colorado and I-25 at 10:25 PM.
If you're planning on coming, we should all probably buy our tickets early and meet there by 9:30 or so.

I'd do the 7 o'clock showing but that would be really hard for me to make with the commute from work.

Anywho, let me know if you're interested. ;D

IMAX does sound pretty awesome...hmmm...

Me and a few of my friends might be interested..
We were gonna try to make a midnight, but this might be better.
x3 We'd need someone to vouch for our adult though, we're under 18. Lol.

I'd like to see this just to figure out what it's about. The story looks confusing as heck!
I'll check to see if I can go...but it's dnd night so it's unlikely.

its not that confusing from what i remember. it all started with the death of a super hero and some of the retired heroes try to figure it out, and then there's this Rorschach guy who's jsut really cool at being a bad/good guy hero too. thats all i can remember actually  ???

Ok, so we've bought our tickets tonight for next Friday. Unfortunately, I won't be able to vouch for anyone under the age of 18 to come to the movie. As staff this wouldn't be right, I apologize. Hopefully we'll see everyone there. Again I'd recommend that you buy your tickets ASAP if you're coming.

As for the story, a brief summary:
The year is 1985 and costumed "super" heroes have been outlawed for 8 years by the federal government. And that's when one of the 2 heroes that is legally allowed to still work, the comedian, is murdered. Rorschach figures out the secret identity of the comedian and starts investigating someone killing off costumed heroes.  He eventually teams up with the night owl and the silk specter to work it all out.

We really get to feel the humanity of all of these aging heroes, learn to see their worries and hopes and dreams. I'm not gonna give away anything else, but believe me, the original story was amazing, and from what I've heard the movie is almost completely true to the graphic novel.

We'll probably go see it Friday night, but not at the IMAX. I want to be able to see the entire movie, not having to dart my head around to see a particular part of the screen.  ;D

Been looking forward to this film for quite a while. The "Watchmen" comics came out when I really started collecting comics, and it and "The Dark Knight Returns" changed the face of comics forever.  I recommend anyone and everyone pick up the graphic novel for a read through. It is a dense murder mystery that really goes into the psychology of why anyone sane would put on a costume and fight crime. The answer, of course, is that no one sane would. The psychoses are different but in the end you see these are real people, not just icons. It's also not for kids. There is bloody violence, rape, torture and more. It is definitely an adult story.

And a clarification. This is an alternate world 1985. The advent of a true superhuman in the form of Dr. Manhattan, rather than the other 'superheroes', who are just humans in costumes getting into fist fights, changes history. President Nixon sends Dr. Manhattan into Vietnam, which ends up winning the war and making Nixon so popular that he's been re-elected president several times over and is still president when the story happens. Imagine how having Superman around would have really changed the world.
