NDK Forum Rules and Guidelines
(1/1)
Greg Hines:
Like most other online discussion sites, the NDK Forum has a number of rules and guidelines that we expect everyone to follow. These rules and guidelines are enforced by a small but dedicated group of moderators who have volunteered to help maintain a strong community. If a moderator makes a decision, you are expected to abide by the terms of that decision.
If you have a problem with a moderation decision, please e-mail your concerns to mods@ndkdenver.org. Most moderator decisions may be appealed. Each decision may only be appealed once and only by the affected party. All decisions reached on appeal are final.
And finally, please remember that the NDK forum is a discussion forum, not a chat forum. If you want to chat, drop by our IRC channel where we're happy to chat with you.
The Rules
These rules are compulsory. To break one of these rules will result in immediate disciplinary action.
In most cases, a person's first violation of the rules will result in a warning; a second violation will result in a one-week ban from the forum; and a third violation will result in a permanent ban from the forum. Egregious violations may result in harsher repercussions, however.
Ignorance of the rules isn't a valid excuse for breaking them, so please read them carefully:
* One account per person. Each forum member is allowed one--and only one--account. "Alt" accounts are prohibited. Account sharing is prohibited. Banned users may not create new accounts.
* Keep it clean. Don't post or link to sexually-explicit, obscene, or objectifying material. Don't curse excessively or in thread titles and don't try to subvert the language filter. Toilet humor is prohibited.
* No religion or politics. Don't post political or religious news or opinions. Our status as a non-profit entity forbids NDK from playing host to political or religious discussions. As such, discussion of politics or religion is strictly forbidden.
* No hate speech. Insults based on race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, or nationality will not be tolerated, even if they're made in jest. Violation of this rule will result in an immediate and permanent ban with no appeal.
* No personal attacks. Keep the discussion civilized. We encourage frank and open discussion but personal attacks will not be tolerated. You may attack a person's argument, not their character.
* No trolling. Don't make inflammatory posts just to get a rise out of people. Dissenting opinions are fine but posts that intentionally upset others are not.
* No bootlegs. Promoting or soliciting illegally-obtained copyrighted material is prohibited. This includes--but is not limited to--bootlegs, fansubs, scanlations, emulators, ROMs, and warez.
* No discussion of illegal activity. Promoting or soliciting illegal activities is prohibited. This includes--but is not limited to--drug use, underage drinking, and violation of international copyright law.
* Respect others' privacy. Don't post any private information about any NDK Forum member without their expressed permission. This includes e-mail addresses, physical addresses, phone numbers, pictures, and other media.
* No spamming. All posts must be non-commercial in nature. Frequent promotion of one's own web site, project, product, store, etc. is prohibited. Approved merchants may post about special events and sales in The Marketplace, however. Accounts judged to have been created for the purpose of spamming will be deleted without hesitation.
* Don't abuse post editing. Posts may only be edited to provide updates or to make minor corrections. Posts may not be edited for the purpose of removing content after the fact.
Guidelines
These guidelines are primarily geared toward improving the quality of the NDK Forum. Unlike with the rules, there are no set repercussions for violating the guidelines--most violations will be met with warnings--but egregious abuse could warrant a temporary ban or even a permanent ban.
* Post in the right section. We've organized the forum such that each thread should belong somewhere specific. If you want to post about cosplay, for example, post in the Cosplay section. If you want to talk about something that doesn't seem to fit anywhere else, it probably belongs in General Discussion or, if it's about NDK, in NDK Discussion.
* Stay on topic. History has shown that when a thread moves away from its original topic, it doesn't return. In order to foster more engaging conversations, we ask that you refrain from tangential conversation. Consider creating a new thread if you'd like to discuss something other than the original topic. The more threads the merrier.
* Don't bump threads. If no one has responded to a topic in a while, it's because no one has anything to say. Bumping a thread to the top of the list won't change that. All "bump" posts will be deleted on sight.
* Don't resurrect dead threads. If a thread hasn't had a reply in more than 60 days, it's considered "dead." If you'd like to continue the conversation, do not reply to it. Instead, please create a new thread and, optionally, link to the dead thread. Threads discussing the upcoming NDK are exempt from this guideline.
* Don't use all-caps in posts or thread titles. Text in all-caps is hard to read and it looks like shouting. Please refrain from using all-caps in posts or thread titles so that the thread listing pages stay readable. All such thread titles will be edited by the moderators. Use of all-caps for occasional emphasis is fine, however.
* Respect others' opinions. Everyone's opinions differ. Someone posting an opinion with which you disagree does not make them a troll, nor does it give you the right to attack them because of their opinion.
* Respect your own privacy. This is a public forum, which means that anyone may view the contents of any post. Posting your e-mail address will likely result in an increase in spam and posting your phone number could result in creepy phone calls in the middle of the night. If you need to share your personal information, please use the personal message system.
* Respect the moderators. Our moderators volunteer their time and energy toward keeping the forum an enjoyable place for everyone. Part of their job is to sometimes make difficult and unpopular decisions. They're also entitled to their opinions just like anyone else on this forum and their moderator status implies no relationship between their personal opinions and official con policy.
