Answer time... A line of masks would be quite cool. Ah so you've made wands in the past, thats impressive. How long have you been doing comics for? LOL I love your gypsy Girl shore dealing with the fans. Your cover art is awesome ^_^ I've been drawing comics sub-professionally [that is, enough to make money but not enough to make a living at it] for 12 years. I've been in the AA for seven years with comics and original drawings. And try as i might to plan things out, i get very little sleep the week before the con [and NONE the night before] getting everything ready. So every Friday at the con i can hardly complete a sentence from lack of brain cells. Thanks, gg

I actually had to do some math on my part. I hate finalizing all my items, and I hate doing one from start to finish in a day. I'm lucky I only work 4 days a week and get home by 2:30 on Tues and Thurs 99% of the time. I've also been working hard on weekends which has been great for my pocket book, since I haven't been going out @_@. For me right now I'm gonna try to have all my tails done by May, so I can concentrate on ears since they take more work. Hopefully if I stay on track i will have all of August to finalize anything need be and get all I need printed out (price sheets, business cards, promo offers if I decide to do that).
I know none of us on here live off our art, but anyone remember the days when your work was just minuscule, and the thought of ever claiming taxes, and or getting a buisness license wasn't even a twinkling of an idea? At least thats what I have been reflecting on as of late.

I'm with Wander Studios and we have six artists including myself, so we have a lot of different stuff. Last year we had charms and jewelry items based mostly on the Legend of Zelda, dragon and wolf sculptures, um..some handmade canvas bags, lots of bookmarks. One of our artists made these super cute chibi bookmarks that sold like crazy. I was amazed. If you saw anyone wandering around with a lifesize Fairy in a Bottle from LoZ that was probably from us.
This year I'm personally focusing on arts incorporating Japanese kanji and the like, and EGL accessories.
and last year, we were totally up until who knows when the night before, finishing everything. We were putting beads on the bookmarks at the table..

i'm rini, and i'm not in AA, as prolly all of you know =)
but, what i'm curious is, and i hope this isn't too off topic, how do you decide to price your stuffs? the reason why i ask is that i'm going to start selling crochet stuff in various places, and there's always such a hueg debate in the fibers community about how to price what you make. so, being that AA is all hand-made, i'm curious how you guys do it.

I figure out how much it's worth period (like, for the raw material), and what a fair amount of profit is in cost to the time spent and what it is, and how much I think *I'd* spend for it, ask some friend, and try to find a middle (Like...I'm thrifty, but the friend I ask always seem to be extravagant, so somewhere in the middle ends up nice)

Well, last year I had *planned* to start making things in July. But most of it didn't get done until the 1st week of September. One of the wings didn't make it at all [in fact it's still sitting here in a bag all in pieces lol) I'm hoping to get into gear this year and get things done by mid August.

While I appreciate wanting to keep a thread like this alive, please don't bump threads. Please see section 3 under guidelines in the rules. http://www.ndkdenver.org/forum/index.php/topic,3011.0.html

I know for a fact that the Squidworks will be returning to the AA this year, tho i'm not sure of the entire line-up yet. Stan Yan once more will be bringing the hot Zombicature action, and many more will be doing the comic-based panels thing. I can post more AA details as i get them.
Thanks, gg

You know... I've always thought someone should make anime themed squeaky toys for dogs or catnip toys for cats. Stuff like the kuroneko from Trigun or the cat plushies that pop up in Azumanga Daioh. Simple enough things to sew, but with more heavy duty materials and stitching/thread. If anyone is randomly looking for additional crafts to make for their table, That's just something I always thought would be fun ^_^

Felted wool works good for catnip toys. ~just a thought. I know several people who would be interested in things like that.

haha we were actually thinking about making 'the father', 'cat and dog' and 'nekokoneko' from azumanga daioh as plushies; maybe we should make them catnip toys? I'm sure the random catboys and catgirls would like them at least ^_~

so all of sudden we've decide to do a bunch of textile arts. I designed and made a spiffy case for my Nintendo DS and I'm planning on making a few of those with custom printed fabric and taking commissions since they require so much work, and hopefully a lot of little cellphone holders and stuff. I want to do original character art on the DS cases I make, and I'm thinking about designing a PSP case, but I think I'd like to do fanart on the cellphone holders. What characters or designs would you all like to see?

Since I don't usually spend too much time in Artist Alley, I'm surprised to hear about some of the effort that goes into the goods. I'll have to stop in and actually do a bit of shopping this year.

I wouldn't mind seeing some designs based on old school stuff like, GW, Serial Experiments lain, Slayers....^_^ so all of sudden we've decide to do a bunch of textile arts. --------------------------------------- I think most artist would agree with me on this, we would love to have you a stop by and take a gander at all the goodies we labor over. ^_^. Speaking of spending time on stock, how is everyone coming along? I've been scheming up some new items I want to run past kat once I have finished demos/pictures to send her way. Since I don't usually spend too much time in Artist Alley, I'm surprised to hear about some of the effort that goes into the goods. I'll have to stop in and actually do a bit of shopping this year.
Here's a good question for all the artist. Do you have your office/craft space organized or is it a disaster zone? If it's organized what are some options of organizing your supplies etc you have used.

My artist/craft space is a black bag I carry everywhere. The name's not gypsygirl for nothing...
But I need to make and keep a space really fast if I want to make enough product for NDK. These few months fly REALLY fast.
Thanks for asking, gg
