Left 4 Dead
« on: October 21, 2008, 11:48:24 am »
Who else is excited for this?  This game looks poop yourself scary fun.   Online 4 player Co-Op.  If there is interest, we may wanna consider a NDK faction to this game since this game is built around teamwork and communication.  I might be able to lend out my Vent server for it.  This is coming to the PC and 360.

Wow...I may have to get XBL just for this....I love co-op games, and you never see them anymore. But this looks gorgeous and original.

Yup, this is on the list for sure. What is also cool about it is the V.S. mode. One team zombie, another human, oh yeah!!!

I am getting this for the PC though.   Mouse and Keyboard FTW!  I am unsure if there was going to be PC/XBL compatible though.   Havn't seen that happen since Quake 3 for the Dreamcast/PC.

Downloaded the demo last night for this game.   CRAZY AWESOME.   I am loving every freakin gun toting, Zombie shooting, running for your life minuet of it.   The demo is just 2 zones, which leaves you wanting but wicked fun none the less.   As said before, I got it for the PC and it runs through steam.   If you wanna join me for shooting action send me a friends request to "DJBullock"

I've been hearing a lot of good things about this one. I'll probably pick it up at some point. Not entirely sure if I'll get the PC or 360 version, though. Mouse/keyboard control is far superior and I'm terrible with the dual analog sticks, but I'd need a new view card to play it at any reasonable framerate (new high-rez monitor kills my old video card).

Using a controller for a FPS isn't impossible, I learned fairly easily (as long as the game will let you flip the sticks). And you just cited my main reason for switching to console gaming. I don't feel like having to upgrade every time I want to play. Though I miss mods and skins.

Downloaded the 360 demo. Had a lot of fun. I'll love seeing the full game.

I have been informed that I'll be getting it for Christmas, so it won't be long. Also, Alex's brother Neil plays a lot, if you have his Steam ID.

"The goobers you know..." eh? :P

I'm still torn on this one. I was hoping to pick up a nice graphics card on the cheap either on Black Friday or Cyber Monday, but it didn't work out. Hopefully I'll be able to remedy the video card situation before everybody's onto the next big thing.

if your looking to spend about 100 there are some good cards for about that right now.   I am running Left 4 Dead on a 8600 GT and I have no issues with settings still pretty high (running at 1600 x 1050 with most settings on high).  Just spec'd out a new compy for a friend and he got a 9800 GTX for about 130.

I don't mean to derail the thread with video card talk, but here goes...

I'm running at 1920x1200 right now, which requires a pretty beefy card if you want to play with all the image quality settings way up (and I do!). I'd actually tried a 4850, but there was a problem between the ATi drivers and my monitor, such that my monitor wouldn't recognize a signal coming from the card. And it sounds like I'd have the problem no matter what ATi card I try (it's been a known problem for over a year) so the only choice I have is Nvidia as long as I've got this setup (grrr...).

Unfortunately the price/performance ratio on Nvidia cards sucks pretty hard right now. I'll probably end up with a 9800GT because it's got (just) adequate performance for a reasonable price.

So... I've still got to wait for a check to come in (stupid clients paying late) and pick up the game and the card. Once I do, I'll let you know.

EDIT: To heck with it. I've got a 9800GT and Left 4 Dead on their way. I should have them at the end of the week.

Sweet!   Once its installed friend me up and we can shot the zombie horde together.   The experience will change you.

As a side note, the 9800GT is a great card.   Was reading reviews on cards before i suggested my buddy on what to buy.   The 9800 series of cards preform better at high res since they were built with that purpose in mind.

They do, but for a game like Left 4 Dead I'm probably going to be looking at the neighborhood of ~40 FPS average (4xAA, 16xAF) for the 9800 GT rather than ~60 FPS for the 4850, which is right around the sweet spot.

C'est la vie. 40 FPS is still playable, I guess, and I'll be looking to buy a new machine (Nehalem-based) within a year anyway. It'll do. (Plus the card comes with Call of Duty 4, so that's a bonus.)

I'm hoping it'll get here tomorrow afternoon. If so, I'd be up for some gaming tomorrow afternoon or over the weekend!
