Staff complaint T^T

  To start off, thank you for another wonderful NDK everyone!  I had a great time (for my 7th time).
  I do have this complaint though.  The only thing I did not like about NDK this (and last) year is the staff look so darn miserable!  I'm sure holding such a great convention can be hard but aren't they doing it because they enjoy it?  I like seeing someone taking their job seriously, but they should be seriously enjoying it as well.
  Has anyone else noticed this?  Shouldn't the staff try to uphold the fun energy along with the attendees? 

  Making the events and everything run smoothly is very important.  But my gawd, enjoy the wonderful con! >o<
  (I would've posted this in the 'NDK Discussion' area, but this topic wasn't for any of those specified forums)

I know I had a great time at the convention. All the staff I talked to seemed to be very upbeat as well. Admittedly, when we have an urgent task to do, we do get rather focused and stoic looking. Also in the case of line and crowd control, sometimes it may sound like they are being rather course, but that is primarily they have to shout quite loudly to get peoples attention.

I am not sure if these are the instances that you are referring to, but that is my best explanation anyway.

The ony complaint i have is i picked up my girlfriend and i was standing with my friends and one staff member came and yelled at me and said put her down. -_-

I can't speak for all staff members, but for me being on staff is fun, even if it may not always look like it. Sure, we run into problems that cause us stress, and we're tired from doing lots of work throughout the weekend, but I have a lot of friends on staff that I get to spend time with at the con, and I truly enjoy the work that I do at the con. So while it may not look like I'm always enjoying myself, I don't know if I could enjoy the con nearly as much if I wasn't on staff.

Sometimes all we need is a simple wake up reminder.  Because of my natural cynical tone, a lot of people think that I am always upset and griping, but really, I'm having fun.  I think some of us just handle things different ways.

I will agree that sometimes staff look and sound scary but i dont really think they dont like the con or their job. I think its due to people who have no idea how to act at a con that might influence how some of the staff deal with certain situations. Like the hug line last year... it was all well and good till we started getting a million people joining us and we were all told to not block the doorway and walkways. Some people didnt get that and after a couple attempts to get everyone from blocking said spots that the guy just yelled out that we were disbanded and of course he had to shout to get people to hear him but for those of us near to him we were all "Dude... its ok... we'll leave..."

I know that I tend not to look like I am having fun a lot of the time during the con.  Some of the occurrences at the con that Safety in particular gets to deal with can be fairly unpleasant at times.  However, I enjoy every minute of it, from beginning to end.  Otherwise I wouldn't do it!

You obviously didn't drop by the Operations desk enough. ^_^ We had too much fun, someone even told us so.
But I'll agree with others. If we're dealing with something serious, it's kinda hard to smile while doing it. But we wouldn't continue to do it if we didn't enjoy it.

I for one had a BLAST and will be back for more next year. So see you at the Ops station!!

The ops desk is located near the reg desks ya? Were you guys the one playing with the anime hand puppets? I think one of them was that chick with long dark hair from fate stay night.

The name you're looking for is Toosaka Rin, and yes, I saw that puppet -- I was jealous.  I think the other one was a cat-eared Arcueid Brunestud.  There really should have been another (a Ciel or a Saber or something) just to complete the Type-Moon trifecta.

Returning to topic, I think the thing that kept me sane on one of my morning video shifts was (very quietly, so as not to disturb the audience) ripping to shreds one of the, er, less-distinguished titles I'd scheduled.  By the end of five episodes, the volunteer and I were thoroughly disgusted with the series in question but were at least happy and sane enough to continue with the day.

Yah... that be us, both in location and puppeteering. It's my first year say staff, so I forget who had the puppets. We had a total blast in Ops, when we weren't required to be serious. *nods*

The only problem I had was when we were in the autograph line for Vic. We waited for around 2 1/2 hours and they even told us we were the lasts ones to get signed and we were the end of the line. They kept on disscussing this with us untell we finally got there. We went up to Vic why he was doing someone eles's autograph and a staff came infront of us and said to get to the back of the line. The only other line then was the 3:00 ling for some other guests. We told her we were then end for Vic's signing and they told us we would be able to get one. She then argued with us that Vic had to leave right now and that the signing was over. Even though we could clearly see Vic signing another autograph and eatting a big bento box. Why couldn't we get a minute to get a autograph? I thought that was kinda rude, maybe I don't know anything about the 'rules' for autographs, but isn't that kinda hyprocritical? Saying we can't get an autograph why some Naruto is standing there getting one? just saying, I'm also not trying to be rude, it just made me mad right then.

I can see how you feel that way, but the naruto kid was probably the last one - mainly because if Vic was signing at 2:30, that was a 1/2 hour longer than he was scheduled.  And he didn't really get a chance for lunch that day, so they probably wanted to hide him for a bit so that he could eat in peace and maybe get some rest.

I'm sorry that you had a bad experience.  We want to make sure that the attendees have a good time, but we want to make sure to take care of our guests too!  That way they'll come back!

^^ Thats what I ended up asking the guy with the Rin puppet. Thanks for the names... my memory sucks hard core at remembering all the anime characters i've seen. YAy puppets!! XD
The rin puppet looked really cute, I wanted one so bad that day. A saber puppet would have been so freakin awesome!
Even though you mentioned the cat eared one I still have no idea where that is from... -_-

'Twas Zegapain.  Don't get me wrong, it had some fun points, but all in all it came out as a poorly-written (both original and dub) fusion of RahXephon and The Matrix.  I've honestly seen Sunrise (the Gundam guys, though Crest of the Stars and Code Geass are nearer and dearer to my heart) do so much better.
