You know I can't remember, it was either Oh My Goddess or Fushigi Yugi when they were both selling at about $15 a pop.

I was mainly a anime watcher.  I didnt read any manga until Naruto.  After I saw a couple eps I had to know what was next and the manga is years ahead of the anime.  So I know what happens!   ;)

Samurai Deeper Kyo, right after vol 2 was released in the US. Almost *every* volume since then has left off on a cliffhanger so I'm still quite hooked. >_*

Nausicca of the Valley of the Wind.  Back when Eclipse(I think) was publishing it.  In comic book form.

See, back in the dinosaur age of the late 80's early 90's, manga wasn't published in cute little volumes, most of the time.  Instead, it was published in comic book format, chopping up stories as necessary (but often not).  Later on they were often collected in volumes, but sometimes not - I've still got (I hope) my copy of the Pineapple Army collection, for instance.

That's when I started getting into Manga, and it's what pulled me into comics, which I hadn't really been collecting before.

Long ago I used to get Tenchi Muyo, Sailormoon and Chirality in comic book format -- not like the book formats they have now. Each little comic book was 1 chapter long and it took forever and a half to collect anything in it's entirety. XD;; They were usually like 3 bucks a piece. Looking through here I have quite a bit of Tenchi and some Vampire Princess Miyu.
I also started collecting the X/1999 books years ago too. X is what reaaaaally did me in for manga. I can't get enough of it. XP

I'm so ashamed to say this, but... Sailor Moon.

I think I still have some of them hanging around somewhere as well... *wanders off to look*

I wouldn't be ashamed!   Of course, I probably wouldn't be the one to go by, I have the entire manga set, including the Sailor Scout mini books that came out at the same time.  Oh, and the RPG books by the BESM group, and the trading card game and... Ummm...  -_-;  Heh heh heh...

Anyway, you realize that some of the original Sailor Moon mangas are going for double the purchase price on amazon.   ;)

You're not alone with the Sailor Moon TCG.

I can't actually remember which was the first manga I ever read...I think it was Magic Knight Rayearth...or Oh My Goddess!...Either way, it had beautiful artwork.

My first was Appleseed...

Too bad Shirow has gone so fan-servicey in these later years.

Ah, appleseed.  I was pleasantly surprised by the recent movie, which got it all much better than the original OAV back in the 90's.
