What events and panels are your personal favorites? What should newcomers to NDK look out for on the programing schedule?

--------------------------------

AMVs - I love how everyone cheers for their favorite anime, songs, and creators.

The Anime Dating Game - Interactive events are great. The idea of this is great. Though randomized picking is fun, just wish the participants were picked out differently, maybe to test improv skills, which is what they lacked.

Well considering last year was my first ndk. I still don't know what i like best. I got a little taste of everything. But nothing else left me with a big impact.

Mine's probably the most boring, but I like the GO panel thing, it was real fun last year. Cosplay contest is real cool too though.

Events, huh?? Well...I'm a big fan of the Dealer's Room. There is always something there for me to geek out about. I also love going to the AMV contest. (Great fun and I collect them, too) I've missed the cosplay contest the last two years (I hate standing in LONG lines) but, I do participate as a member of the Ota-paparazzi. Karaoke is usually a good time. Mystery Anime Theater is a hoot every year. Panels, panels. Jinkies, I love the panels...Oh, did I mention the Dealer's Room??

Ack??? I'm looking forward to everything! I want to do as much as I can and see everything!  I haven't really been able to do EVERYTHING the last two years because my plans were destoryed by people I don't talk to any more. >.<  I'm looking forward to Vic Mignogna and the Costume Contest the most!  I hope my friend and I get a slot!

Well the obvious seems to be the costume contest, AMVs, and meeting voice actors. It seems everyone loves the photo shoots. Which is great since those are organized here on the forum.

From recommendations i want to check out Mystery Anime Theater. Last year was it Robotech? I have a really good anime movie in mind if i knew the person to pm. I'm curious to know what the GO panel is.

We need more people to fill us in on their favorite panels and events!

I love the AMV's, cause I like to enter in the contest.

I like the Photoshoots, cause then you can make sure you get pics of characters you like.

I like the Lolita Tea Party, cause there isn't a dress code, and what better excuse than to have tea with a bunch of friends.

I also even just like hanging out in one spot and watching all the people that go by (I am an avid people watcher)

The dealer's room is my geek central. X3

I second minako55nz, i love to people watch, too. o3o But not for too long, cuz i get antsy if i have to sit still too long.

Otherwise...i really didn't go to any other events or anything last year.....*brick'd*

Given, i only went one day and had absolutely no time to plan or to know what to expect, i just kinda got thrown into the madness and left to drift on my own little happy euphoria high. ^___^

That person would be me, the MAT exec. producer.  Last year we actually took the year off and showed a repeat, as Robotech The Movie was originally shown at NDK 7.

Well the main stop is, as others have mentioned, the dealer's room.  It's always fun to wander around and browse even if you don't plan on buying much, or maybe just to kill time between events.  Like window shopping...though of course buying things is definitely a lot of fun at NDK.
I'd also like to add, ever since NDK moved to the Mariott, I've really gotten to enjoying Artist's Alley, or as I love to refer to that area as, The Round Table due to the lay out.  But I really love to see the artwork, and handmade trinkets.  I know they had the independent artists at the Holiday Inn, but I think I just didn't really notice them or care much when they were by the exit of the dealer's room, it always just looked like an area to sit and relax more than anything.

Oh but anyway, the Artist's Alley is great to browse practically as much as the dealer's room, sure not as many booths or items, but still very very enjoyable.

Well, though I don't expect the SAME panel this year, I really enjoyed this egg samurai craft panel last year.  I still have my egg samurai, admittedly I was surprised he didn't get busted during the con.  But anyway, I know I'm going to look forward to seeing if there's another craft panel that's interesting this year, but then I'm a crafty person.  So I guess those are my suggestions.  I haven't browsed the panels that much to be honest, the last couple years I've tried to check them out more, but sometimes it just doesn't happen, or else I don't see ones real interesting to me.  not that there aren't good ones.  But every year I try to check out the panels more and more.

One thing I always try to make at NDK are the panels with the Japanese Guests.  Don't worry if you don't know a single word of Japanese, there are good translators there; not only do they translate what the guests have to say, but they also translate your questions to them.  So, here's your chance to interact with folks directly producing this stuff in Japan.

This year we've got a pair of exceptional guests from Japan: Noriko Hidaka and Yuji Mitsuya.  They are both veteran seiyuu (voice actors) who each have an impressive list of credits.

Noriko Hidaka: http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/people.php?id=282
Yuji Mitsuya: http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/people.php?id=6902

NDK is both fortunate and honored to have these two guests come.  I'm sure that they'll have some fascinating things to say in their panels.

I heard tell that the Japanese cooking panel is going to be amazing this year, expanding to a 2 hour long presentation, with beautiful full color booklets packed with recipes and ingredients and such...

And that the guy running the panel even filmed a cooking demo to show at the panel, and will be distributing the DVDs for a $10 donation to the American Diabetes Association...
