Local Anime Stores
« on: July 28, 2008, 11:33:36 am »
Hello all,

I was thnking about the shortage of places that sell anime around the denver area and surrounding cities. I remember I used to drive to colorado springs to go to the store out there. Now i don't really have the time to drive that far. Gimme Anime is on the list for sure ;D, so is game trader but both are a little far from me. Ever since Media Play and Suncoast closed, places are rough to come by.

let's spread the word and post any local stores that you know sell anime and their general location if you don't know the address or something. Even good websites will work but lets limit that to ones that you've actually shopped from but local stores are prefered.

Thanks!

Thanks guys, those are pretty much the two I already knew of (in my original post). Any others? It doesn't have to be anime specific. Best buy sells anime and has an okay and increasing collection. anywhere works.

Online, I recommend Anime Depot (http://www.animedepot.com/).  They have been going to NDK for many many many years now and give excellent service and pretty fair prices.  If you've been to NDK before, you'll recognize them as the folks on the corner of the center part of the room, with nothing but a massive table of DVDs to choose from.  It's a lot of anime.

I like their bag selection too.

Online, I recommend Anime Depot (http://www.animedepot.com/).

Perfect!!! I buy from them just about every year at the con and just don't remember their name. On the old NDK site we'd have a list of the dealers and you could click to go to their sites or something (memory is not too great right now).

I know they're not local but it helps. Like I said, even good websites help.

Correct.  They are based in Texas, near Austin.  They don't have a physical store though, as they deal only online and at conventions.

Boarders sells anime and manga as does Barnes and Noble.

You can find some in Target and the like (assuming they have an electronics section) but the selection is kinda crappy (read extremely).

Wow, I just realized, I know next to nothing of where to get it aside from what's been mentioned!
PSN:  Skrae     3DS:  3308-4741-5349     Steam:  Skrae (the one with The Undertaker picture)

I can also help to identify bootlegs, if you have a questionable item, send me a message and some pictures if you can and I'll get back to you when I can.

There really isn't that much anymore. Buy Me Anime and Lucky Neko in Colorado Springs are gone. Honya Japanese Book Store closed down recently. I'm not sure if Creative Video is still around and they mostly dealt in Japanese soup operas, not anime. Media Play is gone, Suncoast and Sam Goody are trimmed down to almost nothing. Places that sell pirated anime don't count and I don't consider them to be anime stores.

That problem has just been remedied

Skrae, most of the stuff sold at Target and Wal-Mart are usually horribly censored by outside groups who want to make things well, CLEAN for all ages. Like anime can ever TRULY be for children lol.

Well, I don't like places like Media Play, Suncoast, Sam Goody, and i'm sorry, Gimme Anime because they usually don't have anything Kenji Miyazawa. Honya was my favorite, I found ORGINAL Japanese Miyazawa Kenji books, but of course, I was broke and couldn't buy it, now I"m really kicking myself in the butt. I am looking for ANY place that sells them for a decient price. NOT JACKED UP! NOT MARKED IN EITHER. Thank you Auraria Campus Library.

Wait, you're not a fan of an anime store because they don't carry poetry?
