One of the main reasons speed racer sucked was that warner bros. Marketed the movie as a kid movie I don't think the wachowski's wanted that since speed was the wachowski's faves. Lets hope who gets Bebop don't let the movie company market it as a kid show which it ain't. When dark knight was made, the studio let the creator make his movie his way thats what separated this batman from the others. Hopefully the creator gets all control of bebop not the movie company.

I never heard the Wachowskis complain that WB didn't let them make the movie they wanted to make with Speed Racer. They built up a big reputation, which gave them a lot of creative freedom. From everything I've heard, the movie they ended up making was the movie they wanted to make.

I just hope whoever makes the Bebop movie tries to make a serious adaptation and doesn't just go for the cop out of "we're making a live-action animated movie" like the Wachowskis did with Speed Racer.

It looks like Keanu Reeves was one of the reasons Sunrise studios was willing to go forward with the live action project.

"visited Japan twice to express his interest"... Because nobody visits Japan for any other reason?

I'm sure his hair could be fit to look convincing but I can't see Reeves being able to pull off the arrogant wit that Spike is no known for.

I think the difference between the Cowboy Bebop movie and other live action remakes, is that the Cowboy Bebop movie will have the original creators okay before they start, which means that even if they have started, the script will have been okayed by the original creator.  So Hollywood has some say, but its not that great.

I'll wait to hear what people I know have to say about it before I decide to actually check it out.
