Japanese Mythology Cosplay Children's Book
« on: June 29, 2008, 08:03:49 pm »
Alright, so I'm sitting around being bored when this idea hits me. I was thinking about how many children's books out there already have stories about "And the puppy comes home safely" or "And they live happily ever after," stuff like that. When there are some books on mythology, its hard to find any children's books on Japanese mythology. Now while we all love to cosplay and we all are creative, I had an idea.

I'm currently working on a novel to get it published, but that's gonna take a good while and I wanted to do something with all my friends. So there is always the option of a group of NDK people and myself working on a cosplay/japanese mythology/children's book and work on getting it published. Something along the lines of we get a japanese story like the story of the Snow Woman or the Kitsune or something and we get together cosplay the characters, get some really nice pictures taken and work it into a book with the story and see what happens. So is anyone willing to do this with me?

Actually, I"m thinking about doing something interesting myself, I have thought about doing a Nekomatta from Japanese Legend, a real good idea for a fur suit I know, but in truth, I was hoping to do it in a kimono and also trying to stay true to the Japanese legends.

I am a researcher by nature I would love to help you more with the aspect of research, please let me know if I can help in anyway.

Oh god, Tony will be all over this...

Anyway, I might be interested in something like this.
PSN:  Skrae     3DS:  3308-4741-5349     Steam:  Skrae (the one with The Undertaker picture)

I can also help to identify bootlegs, if you have a questionable item, send me a message and some pictures if you can and I'll get back to you when I can.

He already knows, I told him already what I planning, I don't know if he is interested or not, Skrae, but I'm sure he would have fun with a two tailed cat demon. LOL

I would love your help and I was thinking doing kimnon type things to stay close to the legends as well because I'm sure we all can come up with making legends traditional yet somewhat cosplay like ^__^

So I have a few ideas for how to go about doing this if we can get enough people. First off I need people to do research on the legends and get details and such. After that I want to take the legends but turn them into creative stories still following the legends so that would be the writing part and then of course, getting enough cosplayers and doing a most likely professional photoshoot or getting professional photo quality pictures taken and then yeaaaah thats my plan as of now.

And as for what I had in mind cosplay wise, I actually have one costume in progress for a Ninetales (Pokemon X3) or a Kitsune since pretty much its the same thing in a sense.

You know, Amaya, I am WIN for creative ideas XD (Remember those strange Naruto crack convos we used to have?)
But yeah, I can help out with research and possibly writing.
Photo-wise, if things get desperate, we can always use a digital camera and go to Costco or something. They can enlarge pictures without losing quality.

Hannah...you just HAD to bring up those conversations XD I found one I printed out in my one room the other day and was like O.O But yes you are a pool of creativity.

Alright so my question is what japanese myths do people want to possibly work on. If we do this right, we can probably try and put more than one story in a book.

I'm thinking we definetly need a story about the Kitsune because...well yeah...and then the Nekomatta and I think the Zashiki-Warashi would be cute and since Doodle would be perfect to be a Zashiki. So people throw me some more ideas.

I have a Digital Camera! though I have been known to be a bit of a nut with it, I have been using facebook for most of my images, I haven't really though about printing them up or anything. I could see if we could do posters and such.

My family has a membership at Costco and I'm almost done with my nekomatta costume. I just got two new tails (fox tails, but I'm trying to make the fur real) and I'm trying to have cat ears made from real animal fur (rabbit I hope) to make it look more realistic.

I hope my friends can help me.

Also if you guys want to talk more on deviantart, I do have an account there so we can exchange ideas and also see if we can get some of my friends on Deviant to help us out. I know that I can contact a friend of mine and she might be able to help us with ears and things. I hope, I haven't spoken to her in awhile.

I wish I had thought of this earlier in the year because if we got it done sooner we could have just got them made into books without being published just like bound into books and then sold at NDK but I'm guess its a little too late for that X3

And my dA is http://berry-kitsune.deviantart.com so you can always catch me there.

Well we can probably start working on photoshoots after all conventions are said and done, this is a the time when we should just plan out the stories and get ideas of where to do the photoshoots and stuff.

OK, that is great, though right now, I'm being lectured about how cruel it is to use bunny fur for the ears. I'm sorry, but I don't know what else to use. This is disheartening me about doing the costume at all.

I am wondering though, I have foudn some books on Japanese mythology, if anyone is interested, I will see if we can meet up and discuss it.

Some people are just that way. The way I see it as long as an animal is used for food then its ok to use its hide, there are people in this country how eat rabbit.  Anyway I'm sure any road kill is not going to miss its fur.

I don't see why people would make such a big deal about using real rabbit fur....as long as you aren't going around skinning pet rabbits.

But on the topic of rabbits is there a japanese legend about them? XD

Sure thing, Denver Public Library is sure to be the best bet. I would love to meet everyone there.
