We've officially finalized the weapons policy and costume rules. We'd like to thank the hundreds (!) of you who helped us define both, by asking the right questions so we knew what needed clarifications and sometimes just by constructively pointing out what we'd missed entirely (oops, wings, fur suits, headgear and giant weapons!). If you've read them before, look again! They're different!
By the way, we know not everyone agrees with these new weapon policy, and we're genuinely sorry to have to make such a difficult decision. We weren't the first large con to have to do that, and we won't be the last. The costumes policy, meanwhile was revised to be clearer but actually is the same one as in previous years. If anyone says our costume rule is stricter this year, they're wrong. We simply clarified what was already there, and made it easier to understand and enforce. Click on the image (name is Big Blue) to the right for an illustrated example.
There is never going to be a perfect solution; we'll always be accused of simultaneously being too strict and too lax. We wish everyone could have everything the way they wanted, because we're here to help people have fun. But that's simply not realistic. We have to think about everybody who comes, not just one person and their preferences.
Not sure if your costume or weapon is okay? Please feel free to ask!
Now, let's move on. Two guest announcements are coming very soon!
