Colorado's Premier Anime Convention

Join NDK at the Colorado Dragon Boat Festival!

Submitted by Jinnie on July 28, 2011 at 1:33 AM

We're honored to be participating in this year's Colorado Dragon Boat Festival! Come watch our Cosplay Fashion Show this Saturday (7/30) on the Gateway to Asia stage at 4pm! For directions, visit their site.

We're also sad to announce that voice actor Robert McCollum has been forced to cancel this year's appearance. He's very disappointed he's unable to join us. As an apology, he kindly offered to sign items for the charity auction (to benefit the Japanese Red Cross). Don't miss it, and hopefully he'll be able to join us at a future con!

Panel submissions now closed

Submitted by Greg Hines on June 26, 2011 at 11:29 PM

A big thanks to everyone who submitted their ideas for panels this year. We're currently busy reviewing all of the submitted panels and determining which among them will make the cut and be featured at NDK 2011. We should have responses out to everyone within a week or so. Your patience is appreciated while we review the panels; we'll let you know the status of your panel as soon as we can.

We've now closed down the submission form, which means we're no longer accepting any new panel submissions. If you had an idea for a panel but didn't submit an idea before the deadline, we hope you'll consider submitting the panel next year.

Last week to submit panels

Submitted by Greg Hines on June 19, 2011 at 9:33 PM

A quick reminder to everyone who's interested in running a panel at NDK this year: there's just one week left to submit your panel idea. Sunday, June 26 is the last day to submit panels for approval. If you miss this deadline, there's no way to get your panel on this year's schedule, so if you'll need to act fast if you've had a panel idea rattling around in your head for a while.

As always, be sure to read the Panel Guidelines before you send in your submission.

Rave2Save: the total is...

Submitted by Jinnie on May 1, 2011 at 7:05 PM

Our Rave was an amazing success! Including NDK's dollar for dollar match, we raised a total of $13,440 for the Japanese Red Cross! Thank you so much to everyone who came and partied for a great cause. With your help, we can give Japan some much-needed assistance.

We'd also like to thank:

  • The Marriott DTC for donating the space
  • Gimme Anime, Miles Almon, and everyone else who donated rare and special auction goods
  • George Robbert for the highest individual donation, and for organizing the silent auction
  • DJ RJ and Phaze Nightclub for holding a special event last week in Loveland and donating the proceeds to Rave2Save
  • Our amazing staff
  • All the guest DJs, including "I am still awake"/"DJ H<3RT"/"blademeister"</li>

Missed the Rave? We'll also be raising money for the Japanese Red Cross at NDK 2011.

Panel submissions for NDK 2011 now open

Submitted by Greg Hines on April 24, 2011 at 7:36 PM

If you've got an idea for a panel or some other activity that you'd like to run at NDK, we're now accepting panel proposals.

We've streamlined the submission process this year. There are two steps instead of three, and we'll only be doing one step at a time. That means all panel submissions need to be in by the end of the day on June 26. We won't be accepting any new panel submissions after that date.

Be sure to read through the Panel Guidelines and propose a panel today. We look forward to seeing what you've got in store for us this year!

NDK's Rave2Save Japan: 4/30/11

Submitted by Jinnie on April 5, 2011 at 10:19 PM

Do you want to help Japan recover from the Great Eastern Japan Earthquake? Join us for a one night only dance to raise money for Japan Relief! Rave2Save will feature music by DJ Bullock and a silent auction. Kingyo-sukui (goldfish-scooping) and wanage (ring toss), the traditional Japanese games featured at NDK NYE, will also return.

As Ame-no-Uzume danced to entice Amaterasu-omikami, the sun goddess, out of hiding in her cave, so we too dance in these days of dark trouble after the earthquake and tsunami. May our dance echo this and once more entice Amaterasu-omikami to turn the warmth of her gaze on Japan. Bless the Japanese as they recover and build back from this terrible destruction.

Nan Desu Kan will match all funds raised, dollar for dollar. The money will be donated directly to the Japan Red Cross.

Location: Marriott DTC (Evergreen Ballroom)
Date: Saturday, April 30, 2011
Time: 8pm-whenever!
Cost: minimum $10 donation at the door (cash only). Free parking.
Hotel rooms: start at $69 (Book on Passkey)

Want to announce you're coming? Here's the official Facebook Event. Don't forget to tell all your friends about the Rave!

A fond farewell to BakuDan

Submitted by Greg Hines on February 28, 2011 at 3:43 AM

We’re saddened to announce that Dan Peak, one of Nan Desu Kan’s founding staff members, is stepping down from the Board of Directors of NDK’s parent organization. He’ll be pursuing his dream of teaching martial arts and we wish him the very best in all his future endeavors.

Dan, known to most people at NDK as “BakuDan,” was a pioneer of NDK’s Video Game Room, which he headed from its inception until he joined the Rocky Mountain Anime Association Board of Directors in 2007. There he earned a near-legendary reputation among staff and attendees alike.

As the Staff Director for the convention, he was a relentless champion for all of NDK’s many staff members. With his policy of open communication and his uncanny ability to get to the heart of a problem, he was ideally suited for the position. Depending on what was needed of him, he played the role of problem-solver, confidant, or shoulder to cry on.

Dan will be missed greatly, and we want to extend our heartfelt thanks for his 15 years of dedicated service to NDK. He has left this place far better than he found it, and for that we’re truly grateful. His legacy of integrity, honesty, and fairness will never be forgotten, and we’re all better people for having had the privilege of working with him.
